Fall is definitely my favorite time of year. The leaves are beautiful colors, the days are perfect for hot chocolate, and I get to decorate my home with adorable seasonal decorations.
I asked interior designers what styles they think will be big this season and I’m loving all of them. Putting an emphasis on coziness, choosing earthy colors and playing with vintage styles are just a few top suggestions.
If you want to bring the latest interior design trends into your home and prepare it for fall, it’s worth trying these out.
1. Maximum comfort
‘Tis the season for cuddling, and this year more than ever, people are craving the comfort of home.
“I’ve noticed that customers are increasingly placing value on comfort,” explains Andre Kazimierski, design expert and CEO of Improovy Painters of La Grange.
“Colors like greens and browns can really help create a warmer, cozier atmosphere inside while also connecting to the natural elements of the season,” he continues.
Andre adds that decorative elements such as candles and naturalistic décor such as preserved leaves are also perfect for enhancing the warm and inviting atmosphere.

When I think of fall, the first things that come to mind are pumpkin and cinnamon, which have been combined in this delicious candle that also has delicious notes of clove and vanilla.
2. Playful nostalgia
One of the biggest trends in small spaces this year has been nostalgia. People are bringing in things that remind them of certain times and things. That’s going to be big in the fall.
“I’m noticing a desire for more eye-catching fall decor, like colorful leaf garlands, pumpkins, and brighter fall tones,” explains Nikki Lo, interior design expert at hipandhome.
She continues, “For many people, the fall is getting warmer and they are losing all the typical fall experiences that are natural at this time of year, like cooler temperatures and changing leaves.”
Nikki adds that this is a great way to celebrate and romanticize this time of year, so don’t be afraid to hang fall wreaths, choose fall decor like pumpkins, and go for leafy motifs.

I have a mug similar to this one from Anthropologie’s fall collection and I love how aesthetically pleasing it makes warm drinks look. It comes in three different shades – white, neutral and orange – so you can choose the mug that best suits your style.
3. Earth tones
While it’s easy to reach for orange and burgundy tones this season, designers are thinking a little outside the box this year.
“Colors focus on earthy, muted tones like sage and olive, often combined with natural materials to create calm, earthy spaces,” says Rachel Stringer, design expert at Raleigh Realty.
“These colors are wonderful for minimalist environments and can be easily integrated through paint, textiles or even houseplants,” she adds.
If you want to create a colorful contrast, Rachel recommends bold hues like cobalt blue to add energy and personality. “These can be brought in through accessories like pillows, artwork or accent chairs,” she adds.
4. Organic minimalism
This year, design professionals have said goodbye to all gray minimalism and instead added pieces with more personality.
“I’ve seen a move away from that trend towards a warmer, more organic minimalism that incorporates natural materials like wood and jute,” says Rachel.
This style emphasizes a mix of wood tones and organic textures, creating spaces that appear both modern and inviting.

This cute cutting board makes preparing blackberry jam and apple pie child’s play. Not only does it look cute, but it’s also super practical thanks to its sturdy material, its versatility and the fact that it doesn’t deform easily.
5. Cottagecore Vintage
I’ve seen a big comeback of cottagecore this year, which is characterized by vintage-style decor with animal and nature motifs.
“This trend is all about personal expression and curated collections, encouraging the mixing of decor from different eras and styles to create spaces that feel authentic and timeless,” explains Rachel.
If you want to find pieces with real character, I recommend exploring secondhand furniture stores like Goodwill and searching on sites like Etsy.
To bring these fall decorating trends into your home, focus on layering textures and incorporating statement pieces.
“Plus, feel free to mix styles – for example, pairing an earth-toned sofa with a vintage coffee table – to create a unique, balanced aesthetic that reflects your personal taste,” Rachel concludes.
