Actor John Slatterybest known for his roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Emmy-winning series mad Men, has joined the cast of the upcoming USA Network series The RainmakerThe series is based on the 1995 film John Grisham Novel about an idealistic young lawyer named Rudy Baylor who takes on a high-powered law firm in an insurance case. Slattery’s casting was announced on Tuesday, what would have been the actor’s 62nd birthday. Deadline was the first to report on the casting.
Slattery was cast as the series’ main antagonist, Leo F. Drummonddescribed as “a legendary lion of the courtroom and senior partner at Tinley Britt, the powerful firm Rudy Baylor is up against.” The lead role of Rudy Baylor has yet to be cast. USA Network picked up the series in June, and you can check out the legal drama’s synopsis below:
“Rudy Baylor, fresh out of law school, takes on legal tycoon Leo Drummond and his law school girlfriend. Rudy, along with his boss and her unkempt paralegal, uncover two interconnected conspiracies surrounding the mysterious death of their client’s son.”
Michael Seitzman will serve as writer and executive producer of the series. He was writer and executive producer of the series Quantico. He is the creator of the series Empire State, intelligenceAnd Code Blackand also wrote the 2005 film Northlandwhich earned star Charlize Theron an Oscar nomination for Best Actress. The series is the result of Seitzman’s efforts to build a “Grisham Universe” of television shows based on the author’s books. The effort began in 2018 in partnership with Hulu, but development on the series stalled. It’s not clear whether USA Network will pursue further “Grisham Universe” shows.

John Slattery’s Emmy-nominated career
John Slattery began his acting career in 1988 with a role in The Dirty Dozen TV series. In 2007, he rose to fame with his role as advertising manager Roger Sterling in the hit AMC series mad Men. His role earned him four consecutive Primetime Emmy Award nominations for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama from 2088 to 2011. He also received two Critics’ Choice Award nominations for this role. Most recently, he starred in the Netflix film Unfrostedin a cameo appearance that shows his mad Men Character.
