There was no sign above the door on opening day, but there was a decorative sign in one of the windows with a display of vegetable-shaped dishes. The sign simply said “Vegetables,” and for a while the store was sometimes called “Vegetables.” Well, it kind of rhymes with Ec’clectibles. And so began the journey to define the store’s concept – to offer a selection of something special for everyone and gift ideas for every occasion.
There are several product lines that were offered when the store opened and are still popular today. A line of handmade soaps from Californiaand Old World Christmas ornaments can still be found here. But the search for the unique, meaningful and meaningful gifts began and continues to this day. It has evolved in many directions, from a one-of-a-kind Halloween costume boutique for several years to a collection of sock monkeys in an amazing range of colors. There have also been collections like UNOde50 Jewelry that were an instant hit. So much so that Ec’clectibles has been recognized as one of the top retailers in the country by this international line of high fashion jewelry. Paul was even asked to speak at one of the national sales meetings. The search for these products at Ec’clectibles is an ongoing process and has recently focused on finding gift lines for men, as well as fine-tuning the key meaningful lines that have helped define the business. These gifts range from unique gifts for newborns to home fragrance systems from Paris, France; from handmade greeting cards featuring quilling art to one of the largest selections of Old World Christmas decorations in the area.
Paul also attributes the long-term success of his store to the vibrancy of the historic district. He believes that the success of his store also depends on the success of all of his neighbors. Things like supporting and participating in the Downtown Frederick Partnership were very important to him. He served on the board for several years and eventually became its president. His store is open every day of the week, Thursday, Friday and Saturday until late.
“What I have enjoyed most about building this company over the last 20 years has been the opportunity to be creative in how I present and promote my business and to do so with a team that shares all of those efforts with me and makes it even better.”
From the beginning, Paul’s youngest sister, Stephanie Ransomhas been by his side and the other creative force behind the growth of Ec’clectibles. It is also her talents that have given rise to a bespoke silk floral division, specialising in arrangements, wreaths and wall hangings for her clients. Home decor is also found here and that gives it an even stronger, unique quality that is hard to find.
So what does the future hold? A better and ever-changing selection of perfect gifts, whether for someone else or for yourself. Ec’clectibles has also grown online and has its own website, making shopping with them even easier. Follow them on Facebook and Instagram to find out what’s new and what’s happening as they move into the third decade of beautiful Downtown Frederick!
