Still strong after 23 years: The Turkish AK Party celebrates its anniversary

The 23rd anniversary of the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) was marked with nationwide events on Wednesday, with the celebrations centering on the party’s newly opened congress center in the capital Ankara.

The party’s founder and chairman, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, addressed an audience of party supporters and cadres at the event in Ankara after a documentary film was shown on the achievements of the successive AK Party governments he led as both prime minister and president.

Erdoğan said the party started as a grassroots movement and has become the hope of millions in a short time. He stated that they are honored to serve the nation, which is aware of the state the country was in when the party won the first elections and the State of Türkiye, and listed their achievements today.

“We have overcome many obstacles, from terrorist attacks to the coup attempt (in 2016), but we have never given up,” he said.
