The award categories reflect the ever-growing range of talent in the British jazz scene: Jazz Vocalist of the Year; Jazz Instrumentalist of the Year; Jazz Album of the Year; Jazz Ensemble of the Year; Jazz Newcomer of the Year; Jazz Venue of the Year; Jazz Media Award; Jazz Education Award; and the Merits for the Jazz Award.
Following public online voting for the awards, the shortlist was then made by a selection panel representing a broad cross-section of backgrounds, combining their passion and knowledge of jazz. The winners, chosen by the All Party Parliamentary Jazz Group (APPJG) jury members, will be announced on Tuesday 29 October 2024.
Chi Onwurah, MPChairman of the APPJG, said: “These awards are a great opportunity to celebrate the talents and energies of the amazing musicians, educators, promoters, record labels, jazz organisations, blogs, jazz magazines and journalists who have helped jazz to continue to flourish. These shortlists demonstrate the wealth of talent and commitment that exists in the UK jazz scene. The Parliamentary Jazz Awards are now in their 19th year and celebrate the best of British jazz musicians. MPs and peers from the All Party Group are grateful to PPL for supporting the event.”
Peter Leathem OBEChief Executive Officer of PPL, said: “PPL is delighted to support the 2024 Parliamentary Jazz Awards. The shortlist reflects both the phenomenal jazz talent we have here in the UK and the community that has formed in the countries and regions around them.
