Delta Airlines uses T-Mobile for free IFC

Delta Airlines already offers free Wi-Fi on some long-haul flights and has announced that the 700 aircraft currently equipped with it will be expanded to “the vast majority of our fleet” by the end of the year.

The Wi-Fi is delivered via Viasat satellites and hosted by T-Mobile (which also has an agreement with SpaceX’s Starlink broadband service in some regions). The currently equipped fleet of nearly 700 aircraft represents more than 90 percent of Delta’s U.S. domestic fleet.

“As we continue to roll out fast, free Wi-Fi and the inflight experiences that come with it, we can serve customers in new, spontaneous ways on domestic and international travel,” said Ranjan Goswami, SVP Customer Experience Design. “The scale at which we are offering free Wi-Fi to our customers is unprecedented in the airline industry and a testament to the incredible efforts of Delta teams across the company who have expertly navigated an extremely complex rollout.”

With the global rollout of free Wi-Fi, Delta announces that its international Wi-Fi portal will initially not require SkyMiles registration.

Later this year, all Viasat Wi-Fi-equipped aircraft will officially transition to the personalized Delta Sync Wi-Fi experience, unlocked to customers through their SkyMiles membership for exclusive in-flight experiences and offers.

Delta’s French routes are already equipped with Wi-Fi and in August the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain and Italy will be added. In September, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Greece, Portugal, Sweden and Switzerland will be added.
