Community celebrates the birthday of giraffe Panya at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo

COLORADO SPRINGS – A crowd gathered at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo Tuesday morning to celebrate Panya the giraffe’s seventh birthday!

Panya is the oldest of the young giraffes and was given a special cake, which her friend, Kay the giraffe, ate most of.

The zoo is partnering with Colorado Springs Children’s Hospital for the celebration. The hospital will send a child ambassador to present the birthday animal with a cake.

News5 asked the zoo why they enjoy organizing these events so much.

“We love hosting events like this because it’s another opportunity to bring our community to the zoo to create memories, but also to connect them with our animals and our people,” said Rachel Wright of the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. “We hope they make those connections and feel inspired to protect their wild counterparts.”
