Caribbean Airlines offers new flights to the British Virgin Islands

Caribbean Airlines (CAL) is expanding its regional network with the introduction of new flights to Tortola, British Virgin Islands effective October 14.

“This achievement represents a significant milestone for both the airline and the territory and is the result of a committed collaboration between the BVI Airports Authority, Caribbean Airlines and key stakeholders.”

Minister of Communications and Public Works Kye Rymer expressed his excitement about the launch of the services, stating, “We are very pleased that the Virgin Islands continue to be a popular destination for airlines and travelers,” adding, “This initiative by CAL will open doors to our country and help the agency and government fulfill their mandate to expand air transportation to the Virgin Islands. The launch of this route fits perfectly with our strategic objectives and we look forward to the benefits it will bring to our people and our economy.”

Kurt Menal, the authority’s executive director, said the introduction of Caribbean Airlines’ service to the Virgin Islands will significantly improve connectivity and make the territory more accessible to travelers from across the Caribbean and beyond.

“This improved accessibility is expected to have a profound impact on our tourism industry, leading to increased visitor numbers and boosting the local economy. By enabling easier and more efficient travel, this new service not only strengthens the Virgin Islands’ position as a premier destination, but also opens up new opportunities for business and cultural exchanges throughout the region,” added Menal. “We are excited about the positive changes this will bring and look forward to a successful partnership with the Virgin Islands.”

Meanwhile, CEO Theodore Burke stressed the importance of this development:

“CAL’s launch of services helps realize the Authority’s vision of being the premier gateway to the Virgin Islands and beyond. We are excited to enhance regional connectivity at this critical time as it will contribute significantly to our growth and positioning as a major player in the Caribbean aviation sector.”

Tourism Director Clive McCoy also expressed his satisfaction as he reflected on the long road to this success. “To see this service come to fruition after many meetings with CAL since 2019 is truly rewarding,” he said. McCoy added: “The launch of this service will undoubtedly satisfy a cross-section of tourists coming to the Virgin Islands by providing inter-regional and international connections and further cementing our status as a world-class destination.”

The BVI Airports Authority, along with Government and other stakeholders, looks forward to the opportunities this partnership brings as Caribbean Airlines embarks on this new chapter.
