Big Boy, the largest steam locomotive ever built, will pass through Union Pacific’s North Lawrence depot this fall.

The 85-foot-long, 380-ton Iron Horse will embark on an eight-week tour of nine states from September 8 to the end of October.

Big Boy stopped in Lawrence twice in 2021. It will not stop here this year, but the Lawrence stop will be on its route from Kansas City, Missouri to Topeka.

Big Boy will spend the night at Union Station in Kansas City, Missouri, arriving there around 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, October 15th, and will be there all day on Wednesday, October 16th.

According to the North Lawrence Improvement Association and the online train schedule, the train will then pass through town on Thursday, October 17, sometime between 9 a.m. and 12:15 p.m.

Big Boy is currently based in Cheyenne, Wyoming, but you can follow his ventures on this map as he gets going.
