Ukraine’s invasion of Russia’s Kursk region has now lasted four days. The Russian Defense Ministry said its troops had “thwarted attempts by enemy units to penetrate deep into Russian territory” and confirmed that fighting was taking place outside the town of Sudzha. Local residents have asked Russian President Vladimir Putin directly for help and the authorities have declared a state of emergency in the region.
