Image Comics is expanding its partnership with Hasbro and is working to launch a new Transformers: Worst Bot Ever collection of graphic novels for middle grade readers next summer under its Skybound Comet label.

This series will follow the misadventures of a brand new character named Ballpoint (who, appropriately, transforms into a ballpoint pen). Former Marvel and DC editor Brian Smith and American artist Marz Jr. are on board as writer and illustrator, respectively.

A first volume entitled Get to know Ballpoint! will be released in comic shops on July 9th next year, followed by a wider launch in bookstores and on digital platforms. The story begins with Ballpoint finally being kicked out of the evil Decepticons after his last attempt to defeat Optimus Prime and the Autobots goes horribly wrong. Shunned by his former comrades, Ballpoint sets out to defeat the Autobots all by himself to prove his worth to his clan.

Image Comics launched Skybound Comet two years ago and has since published six original graphic novels for YA and middle grade readers, including Legacy of the Sea Serpent, Outpost Zero, Scurrying, Everyday hero Machine Boy, Ava’s Demon and a first licensed series called Clementinethat expands the universe of The Walking Dead.

Meanwhile, sister label Skybound Comics is preparing to expand its ongoing comic series Energon Universe with a new GI Joe – The Movie Restart from November. Other series titles in the portfolio are Transformers And Rivals of the Voidwhich will deliver its 12th issue later this month.
