JOHN E. HOOVER
John is an award-winning journalist who has served Oklahoma for five decades. As a sportswriter for various newspapers, he has been the recipient of several state, regional and national awards. During his newspaper career, John has covered the Dallas Cowboys, Kansas City Chiefs, Oklahoma Sooners, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Arkansas Razorbacks and many more. In 2016, John changed careers, moved to radio, started a YouTube channel and built a successful independent media company: DanCam Media. From there, John wrote under the banners of Sporting News, Sports Illustrated, Fan Nation and a handful of local and national magazines, and hosted daily sports talk shows on the radio in Oklahoma City, Tulsa and across the state. John also spoke on Capitol Hill in Oklahoma City as part of a successful effort to bring more certified athletic trainers to Oklahoma’s public high schools. Among the dozens of awards he has won, John’s most notable are the national “Beat Writer of the Year” award from the Associated Press sports editors, Oklahoma’s “Best Sports Column” from the Society of Professional Journalists, and two “Excellence in Sports Medicine Reporting” awards from the National Athletic Trainers Association. John holds a bachelor’s degree in mass communications from East Central University in Ada, OK. John was born and raised in North Pole, Alaska. He played football and wrote for the school newspaper at Ada High School in Ada, OK. He enjoys reading, watching movies, and traveling. He lives in Broken Arrow, OK with his wife and two children.
