Hop On A Cure awards grant to Duke University for ALS clinical study

Hop On A Cure, an activist in the fight against ALS, founded by the Zac Brown Band John Driskell Hopkinshas awarded a grant to Duke University for a pilot study to investigate the safety, tolerability and preliminary efficacy of the probiotic BL-001 in ALS patients. Having established a direct link between the gut microbiome and CNS disease, the study now aims to demonstrate that the probiotic BL-001 reduces neuroinflammation, TLR activation, epithelial cell adhesion and production of key metabolites such as nicotinamide intermediates and ketone bodies.

The study is led by Dr. Richard BedlackMD, Ph.D., who will receive Hop On A Cure’s inaugural Accelerate a Miracle Project Award at this year’s Harmony for Hope Gala in Atlanta on September 14. The award was created to further raise awareness of ALS and recognize those who are making a significant impact on ALS research.

“We know there is a direct link between the microbiome and neurodegenerative diseases. Hop On A Cure is excited to collaborate with Dr. Bedlack and Duke University on this exciting new study,” said Hop On A Cure. David Hopkins“We are grateful to Dr. Bedlack and his dedication to finding a cure for ALS – an important reason why our team decided to present him with our first AMP Award this year.”
