FRANKLIN – Downtown Franklin’s Summer Block Party, hosted by Main Street Franklin, returns for the fourth year on Wednesday, August 21, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

This year, Main Street Franklin will welcome musician and vibraphonist “Vibe Man” John Davis, a new kids activity from Foam Factory, stilt walkers and kids crafts. There will also be food trucks, ice cream, free popcorn and cocktails for adults.

To celebrate the 200th anniversary of the town of Franklin, organizers say a special guest will make a one-time appearance at the Summer Block Party and hand out free kites.

“This year will be very special and we will see new and exciting entertainment and activities as we celebrate a major milestone,” Susan Goldstrom, economic development director for the Village of Franklin, said in a statement.

Organizers said the Foam Factory was a great addition for children, adding that it could only be described as slippery, muddy and foamy fun for all.

“The goal of this event is to bring awareness and business to our local women-owned retailers,” Goldstrom added. “We have a sidewalk sale that starts at noon, so come to the Village and check out our amazing shops before the party starts.”

According to Goldstrom, over 500 people attended last year and dealers reported one of their best selling days ever.

“This visitor number confirms what we know – the general public enjoys being in our picturesque, historic downtown,” she said in a statement.

That attitude is also underscored by new business owners reshaping downtown Franklin. Two vacant storefronts now have new owners. One of them, which formerly housed Madeleine’s Patisserie – and before that Farmhouse Coffee and Ice Cream – was purchased by Lisa MacDonald, owner of Fitness Driven, which operates a Pilates studio in the building that formerly housed Market Basket. MacDonald plans to open a cafe focused on healthy living called Grey Dog Café.

The building that housed the former Franklin Grill has been vacant since January 2024. Jay Farner, founder and managing director of Ronin Capital Partners and former CEO and vice chairman of Rocket Cos., has purchased the property. Plans call for a renovated restaurant in the same space and a deli/market store next door.
