The jazz did not use the second-round exemption to sign the number 32 Kyle FilipowskiInstead, Utah used its remaining salary cap to give Filipowski a four-year, $12 million deal that includes a $3 million salary in the first year, ESPN’s Bobby Marks tweets.

For comparison, a “maximum” deal using the second-round exception would have been worth $9,062,682 over four years, with a salary of $2,087,519 in the first year.

Filipowski’s contract, which carries a flat salary cap hit of $3 million for all four seasons, is fully guaranteed for the first two years, with a non-guaranteed salary in 2026-27 and a non-guaranteed team option for 2027-28, Hoops Rumors has learned. Filipowski must remain under contract through June 30, 2026, to ensure he receives his full salary for 2026-27.

As our rookie salary chart shows, the Jazz rookie will receive more guaranteed salary over the next two seasons than the last eight first-round picks.

We have more from Utah:

  • Johnny JuzangHis new four-year deal with the Jazz is worth a total of $11,425,252, with a first-year salary of $3,087,519 in 2024-25, Hoops Rumors has learned. The final three years of the deal are non-guaranteed, meaning if Utah were to waive Juzang next June, the club would not have to pay for his remaining salary cap charges of approximately $2.84 million (2025-26), $2.71 million (’26-27) and $2.79 million (’27-28). By re-signing Juzang using his early bird rights, the Jazz have easily exceeded the 2024-25 salary cap ($140.6 million) — they are now paying $141.6 million in player salaries.
  • According to RealGM’s transaction log, the team Luka Samanić‘s free agent rights as part of a series of transfers in recent days. Samanic signed a contract with Turkish club Fenerbahce earlier this month.
  • With Lauri Markkanen no longer a transfer candidate for the 2024-25 season, but bookmakers project the Jazz to win between 27 and 30 games, according to Andy Larsen of The Salt Lake Tribune (subscription required). While that wouldn’t be enough wins to compete for a play-in spot, it might be too many to give the team a good chance at a top-four pick. With that in mind, Larsen considers what’s next for Utah, suggesting the team could improve its chances in the 2025 draft lottery by giving young players plenty of playing time and/or signing veterans like John Collins And Jordan Clarksoneven if you don’t receive any valuable compensation for these veterinarians.
  • Oscar TshiebweHoops Rumors has learned that the two-way contract with the Jazz is for one year, making the 24-year-old eligible to become a restricted free agent in 2025.
