DEADPOOL & WOLVERINE concept art reveals first plans for Daredevil, Ghost Rider, Dinopool and more variants

Deadpool and Wolverine is now officially part of the billionaires club, and since the spoiler embargo has been lifted, many of the artists who worked on Marvel Studios’ acclaimed blockbuster have been sharing amazing concept art from the film, including this latest work from Rodney Fuentebella, who confirms plans for a slightly different, albeit equally epic, finale.

It seems like the Shawn Levy-directed film was intended from the start to pit Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) against Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) and the Deadpool Corps in a bloody, thrilling battle at the end, but it seems like an earlier version of the script gave the duo significant support.

In the film, Wade and Logan join the resistance movement, which consists of X-23 (Dafne Keen), Elektra (Jennifer Garner), Blade (Wesley Snipes), Gambit (Channing Tatum) and – before his unstoppable death – Johnny Storm (Chris Evans).

Thanks to the new art, we now have confirmation that they were indeed supposed to be joined by both Daredevil (Ben Affleck) and Ghost Rider (Nicolas Cage), along with a very much alive Human Torch, and that the entire resistance against the Deadpool Corps – including Dinopool(!) – would have apparently fought in the Void rather than on Earth-10005.

Reynolds recently revealed that Ghost Rider was in talks, telling Collider: “Yes. There was definitely a conversation. Yes, but no.”, while writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese revealed plans for the original Daredevil, Did we want to bring in Ben (Affleck)? I don’t think we asked Ben though. At one point Ben was on the list. Ben was on the list but I don’t think it ever made it into the script pages or that we actually asked him.

Unfortunately, talks fell through for one reason or another, but with the resistance movement alive and well, there seems to be plenty of opportunity for more familiar faces to pop up or exit the MCU in the future.

In our review we said: “Deadpool & Wolverine is the ultimate Marvel movie, a non-stop blockbuster entertainer with a heart of red and gold. Ryan Reynolds is truly Marvel Jesus, breathing new life into the MCU and resurrecting the X-Man himself, Hugh Jackman, for one of the most entertaining comic book movies ever made. Both deliver one-of-a-kind performances that will go down in the CBM history books. Don’t go to the theater expecting answers about the future of the X-Men in the MCU or the larger implications for the Sacred Timeline. Just go in expecting to have a good time with Deadpool and Wolverine – maybe grab a bucket of popcorn – and trust me, you’ll walk out extremely happy.

Shawn Levy directs Deadpool & Wolverine, starring Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Emma Corrin, Morena Baccarin, Rob Delaney, Leslie Uggams, Karan Soni and Matthew Macfadyen.
