Airlines extend suspension of flights to the Middle East

Several major European airlines have extended their suspension of flights to Israel and other parts of the Middle East due to the security situation.

Due to increasing tensions and fears of a larger conflict in the region, many airlines had already suspended their connections to Tel Aviv and the neighboring countries of Lebanon and Jordan.

The Lufthansa Group, which also includes Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Swiss and Eurowings, has now suspended all flights to Amman, Beirut, Erbil, Tehran and Tel Aviv until next Wednesday (21 August).

“Due to the current security analysis, the Lufthansa Group is again adjusting its connections to the Middle East,” the company said in a statement. “Lufthansa offers passengers affected by the suspension the opportunity to rebook or cancel their flight free of charge.”

Budget airline Ryanair has cancelled all flights to and from Tel Aviv until August 28 “due to operational constraints beyond our control.” Air France and its subsidiary Transavia have cancelled flights to Beirut until Wednesday (August 14).

The US airline United Airlines has also suspended its flights to Israel for the foreseeable future due to the ongoing security situation.

Several airlines continue to offer flights to Tel Aviv, including Israeli carrier El Al and British Airways from London Heathrow. Wizz Air has also resumed flights to Israel in recent days.

In April, EasyJet canceled all flights to and from Israel until the end of the current 2024 summer schedule on October 27. KLM has also canceled all flights to Tel Aviv until October 26.
