“It took a long time.”

“It took a long time.”

Kai Del Rio (also known as Kai Honasan-Del Rio) has finally announced her long-awaited return to the world of music.

The former Autotelic singer and keyboardist officially announced the news of her signing with independent music label Underdog Music and management company Locked Down Entertainment yesterday (August 12, 2024) in a heartfelt letter posted on her social media accounts. Check out what she had to say below:

“For the past few years I have been wondering and waiting for the right time to sing.
When everything falls into place. When it feels ready.

Marami-rami na rin acong utang na kwento.
I don’t like it, but the songs are great.

(I already owe you many stories, but I want you to experience them through song.)

The last few years of my life have been about freedom and fearlessness. While it’s not ideal, starting my career over from scratch is the bravest decision I’ve ever made. This means that there are many people who love it (I always said to myself): “Do the brave thing first, Mamaya ka na matakot (be afraid later).” Because if history has taught us anything, it is that fortune favors the brave.

I always wanted to return to music.
But first I had to live a life worth writing about.
The songs and stories are ready and soon you will hear them everywhere.

For the hindi natatakot tumayong mag-isa (This is for those who are not afraid to stand alone.)”

In an exclusive statement to Billboard Philippinesthe renowned musician shared: “This is my first solo release since 2014, so it’s been a long time coming. It’s vulnerable and very raw, which makes me nervous, but when you’re about to take that step, that’s the most exciting thing. If anything, I just hope it gives courage to everyone who hears it.”

Del Rio first rose to prominence in the Philippine music scene with the release of her acclaimed debut album. In Your Face and other songs about other facesand has become a popular figure in the independent music scene due to her impressive live performances.
