Last weekend the Northern Lights returned and once again offered a breathtaking spectacle over the Pacific Northwest.
The northern lights coincided with the annual Perseid meteor shower.
Local photographer Jay Shah spent several nights capturing the Northern Lights at locations near Mount Hood and in the Columbia River Gorge.
Shah photographed the lights near Larch Mountain and also took pictures of wildfires along the Columbia River in Washington state.
Trudie Wachter Coleman shared a photo on Facebook of a bright pink aurora taken at Stub L. Stewart State Park.
The Northern Lights were at least partially visible, even in urban and suburban areas where they are often difficult to see due to light pollution. Reader Daina Shutte sent us these photos of the Aurora Borealis from Wilsonville.
Local photographer Jarrod Lyman took several pictures from the Jonsrud lookout point near Sandy.
