The SAG-AFTRA Foundation has opened the doors to the Meryl Streep Center for Performing Artists in LA.
Named in Streep’s honor, the facility is built with state-of-the-art technology and equipment and is dedicated to supporting a variety of completely free educational and career development programs designed to help SAG-AFTRA artists advance their careers and hone their skills.
“Meryl Streep’s quiet and consistent support of the Foundation and her fellow actors over the decades has been nothing short of extraordinary,” said Courtney B. Vance, president and CEO of the SAG-AFTRA Foundation, in a statement. “In recent years, when our community has been hit by serious crises, Meryl has been immediately on hand to help the actors who needed it most.”
Vance continued, “By naming our new center after her, we express our gratitude for her tireless dedication and generosity while embodying the excellence she embodies in our industry. The Meryl Streep Center for Performing Artists will nurture and cultivate the talents of countless artists and serve as a beacon of inspiration for all of us.”
Cyd Wilson, executive director of the SAG-AFTRA Foundation, said the facility will “provide SAG-AFTRA artists with unprecedented resources and opportunities at no cost” and that it will “resume our in-person programming in Los Angeles in this innovative new space.”
The facility also recognized other SAG-AFTRA members and contributors by naming several areas of the center after them, such as the Tom Hanks & Rita Wilson Screening Room, the Nicole Kidman Green Room, the Leonardo DiCaprio On-Camera Lab, the Don LaFontaine Voiceover Lab, and the Ryan Reynolds & Blake Lively Balcony.
The Meryl Streep Center for Performing Artists is located on the 10th floor of 5757 Wilshire Blvd. in Los Angeles.
