Less than a month after JetBlue suspended operations in Palm Springs, another airline announced it would resume one of its key cross-country routes. Delta will offer seasonal weekly flights between Palm Springs and New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport.

Starting December 21 through May 3, Delta will fly between the desert and the Big Apple every Saturday, one flight in each direction.

Flights to Palm Springs depart JFK at 8:45 a.m. ET and arrive here at 10:50 a.m. PT. Flights to New York then depart Palm Springs at 12:50 p.m. PT and arrive at 8:35 p.m. ET.

Delta says the route will be flown with Airbus A220-300 aircraft, which have 130 seats: two on the left side of each row and three on the right side.

The new flights provide a second seasonal option between New York and Palm Springs. Alaska Airlines began service between Palm Springs and JFK in 2023 and will resume daily flights on this route starting in December.

JetBlue Airlines announced in July that it would not resume its seasonal daily service between Palm Springs and JFK, which began last winter.

A Palm Springs International Airport spokesman said JetBlue decided to close the route, which was the airline’s only one at Palm Springs International Airport, because of a strategic reorientation of the company, which is now focusing on the East Coast markets, due to profitability issues and the government’s blocking of a planned merger of Spirit Airlines with JetBlue.

New York will be the fifth market served by Delta Airlines from PSP, along with Atlanta, Minneapolis, Salt Lake City and Seattle.

The flights not only connect Palm Springs to America’s largest metropolis, but also provide more connecting options for desert travelers, as JFK is the country’s busiest airport for international travel. Delta has the most flights of any airline at JFK, offering flights to destinations on several continents, including Rome, Ghana and Brazil.

New York is the farthest city accessible by nonstop flights from Palm Springs.
