Man with suspended license arrested for drunk driving after driving the wrong way, hitting a fence and stopping in the yard

The following is a press release and mug shot from the Blaine County Sheriff’s Office.

On Thursday, August 8, at approximately 5:51 p.m., a Blaine County Sheriff’s deputy was patrolling southbound on Gannet Road, near Labrador Lane in Bellevue.

The officer encountered a white Pontiac traveling northbound in the southbound lane while passing another vehicle. The officer had to pull over to the west shoulder of the roadway to avoid a head-on collision.

The cruiser turned around and while pursuing the vehicle, the deputy observed the Pontiac turn left into a fence, travel over a small canal and come to a stop in the yard of a residence on Gannet Road. The driver exited the vehicle and attempted to flee the scene on foot. Deputies were able to locate him and handcuff him. While being placed in the cruiser, the driver kicked a Bellevue Marshal in the face as he was assisting.

Darrel Eugene McCabe, 61, of Twin Falls was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, fleeing or eluding a police officer, assault on certain persons, driving without a license and possession of an open bottle of alcohol.

McCabe was previously convicted of drunk driving in 2022, 2016 and 2014. His driver’s license was suspended indefinitely in 2011.

McCabe was arraigned in District Court on August 9. He is currently being held at the Blaine County Detention Center on $75,000 bail.
