After an impressive performance last season, the Green Bay Packers have given superstar quarterback Jordan Love a generous contract extension. Annie Agar of the NFL Network explained the move and why he deserves this large severance package.
The Packers made a significant move by signing Love to a lucrative four-year, $220 million contract extension. This deal, capped off by a notable $75 million signing bonus, makes Love one of the highest-paid players in NFL history.
Negotiations led by David Mulugheta and Andrew Kessler of Athletes First resulted in an impressive annual average of $55 million for Love, putting him in line with the league’s other top quarterbacks.
Love’s agreement with the Packers comes after a period of uncertainty following the departure of franchise icon Aaron Rodgers and represents a strategic investment in the future of the franchise.

There are good reasons for the Green Bay Packers’ move to sign Love to a huge contract, as explained in an episode of “The Offensive Line” with Annie Agar.
“The thing about Jordan Love … he’s huge, Annie. He’s a big quarterback and I think he’s got durability. That’s the key, especially when you’re playing outdoors in cold weather in Green Bay, outdoors late in the season when they have to go to Chicago and stuff like that.
That’s very important to me. There are smaller quarterbacks who are considered franchise players. The number one pick in the draft is a small quarterback who sometimes gets pressured. I think Jordan Love can handle that. I like his game, start to finish,” Agar said.
In the 2023 season, Love took over the starting role and delivered remarkable results, finishing second in touchdown passes, seventh in passing yards and 11th in passer rating. Despite initial difficulties, Love’s performance improved significantly as the season progressed, culminating in a playoff appearance where he demonstrated his potential.
The Packers’ decision to secure Love’s services long-term reflects their confidence in his abilities and commitment to building a competitive team around him. With this contract extension, the Packers have solidified their quarterback position and set the stage for a promising future under Love’s leadership.
