BREAKING NEWS: Detroit Lions sign former 46-game Green Bay Packers player

The Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers are expected to battle for the top spot in the NFC North in 2024. This could be the case in the next few years as the Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings are new starters at quarterback.

The Lions made some moves Monday afternoon, one of which involved a former Packers player.

According to the Lions’ official Twitter account (X), they have signed linebacker Ty Summers.

On Sunday, it was announced that Summers was released by the Jaguars.

In May, it was announced that the linebacker would join the team after spending 2023 with the Saints. Last season, Summers appeared in 301 special teams snaps and zero defensive snaps during the regular season. The veteran has not played a defensive snap since 2021.

The 28-year-old was selected in the seventh round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers. Packer. He spent the following season with the Jacksonville Jaguars, and spent the last two seasons with the New Orleans Saints. In a total of 1,521 snaps (1,316 on special teams), the 6’1″ and 230-pound defender recorded 42 solo tackles, one pass defense and one fumble recovery.

“An inside linebacker with the physical qualities of an NFL player but lacks the instincts and feel needed to make plays the way he wants,” his scouting profile on NFL.com reads. “While Summers won’t always be at his peak speed, he could easily run a sub-4.6 40-yard dash before the draft, which could make him a late-round target for teams who see him as a back-end addition and potential core player on special teams.”
