Two men arrested in connection with fatal shooting at house party in Hopewell

RICHMOND, Virginia – Police in Hopewell, Virginia, say they have arrested two suspects in connection with a fatal shooting at a house party in the city in July.

On Sunday, July 21, police say they were called to the 300 block of North Radford Drive because a shooting had just occurred. That was at 3:34 a.m.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found two men suffering from gunshot wounds. The victims have since been identified as 23-year-old Damonye Lamont Taylor of Hopewell and 30-year-old Dequante Travell Roney of Prince George.

Taylor was pronounced dead at the scene, while Roney was taken to the hospital where he died.

Hopewell police said they arrested Razzaq Fard Martin, 30, of Chesterfield County on July 30 for tampering with evidence.

On August 9, police also arrested 26-year-old Ronnie Harold Monroe Junior for assault on a police officer and tampering with evidence.

A police press release said both defendants allegedly obstructed the investigation by tampering with evidence or obstructing officers as they attempted to provide assistance to the victims.

Officials added that such actions were unacceptable and that they would prosecute both individuals to the fullest extent of the law.

“We want to make it clear that any attempt to impede the duties of law enforcement, especially in critical situations, will result in serious consequences. Our officers are committed to ensuring the safety and integrity of our investigations, and we will continue to comply with the law to maintain the public’s trust and safety,” said Deputy Chief Reid.

The shooting is currently under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call Hopewell Prince George Crime Solvers at 804-541-2202.
