CASPER, Wyoming – Casper and Muddy Mountain have long been one of the city’s most treasured gems.
In winter, the tall trees can provide shelter from the relentless wind, and in summer, the higher elevation provides a place to cool off.
Numerous recreational opportunities include hiking, snowshoeing, skiing and camping, and all are just a short drive from any location in the Casper area.
This access was recently greatly improved after a state-funded project repaved Circle Drive and paved nearly 7 miles of Muddy Mountain Road for the first time.
A short overnight camping trip to Muddy Mountain Rim Campground on Sunday, August 11, reminded us several times of what makes the mountain so special.
A clear view of the moon, spectacular sunrises and sunsets – made even more dramatic by the smoke from the wildfires to the west – a bit of wilderness, and a breathtaking view of the night sky with the passing Perseid meteor showers are just some of the visual delights the mountain has to offer.
