Jennifer Lopez spends time with Ben Affleck at his LA home (Exclusive Source)

Jennifer Lopez visited Ben Affleck at home over the weekend after spending most of the summer apart.

A source told PEOPLE that the Atlas The 55-year-old actress stopped by Affleck’s Brentwood rental home while he was there on Sunday, August 11. Earlier in the day, she accompanied his son Samuel, 12, to the mall.

Lopez, who has 16-year-old twins Max and Emme with her ex-husband Marc Anthony, is keen to spend time with Affleck’s children before school starts again, the source said. Affleck and his ex-wife Jennifer Garner have children Violet (18), Seraphina (15) and Samuel.

“Just because she’s not with Ben doesn’t mean she doesn’t care about his kids,” the source says.

“They have always taken care of her. Last year, she spent months looking for the perfect house for her blended family. Now that she’s back in LA, she wants to spend a lot of time with them before school starts again and Violet goes to college.”

A source previously told PEOPLE on August 6 that Lopez and Affleck – who celebrates his 52nd birthday on Thursday, August 15 – had not seen each other “in weeks.” The source added: “They are moving on separately. Jennifer is trying to find a new home to start over.”

A few days later, another insider said Affleck was “doing well” and “thrives when he’s busy, and he’s been working nonstop.”

“The kids are still off school. He’s spending a lot of time with them, too,” the insider said, adding, “It hasn’t been the easiest summer for him, either. He’s just trying to stay focused and make each day the best it can be.”

Affleck and Lopez, whose second wedding anniversary was expected to be quiet in July, have not commented publicly on the status of their marriage. Signs of trouble in their relationship became apparent in May, when sources said the two were living apart.

A source said Lopez is “having a good summer,” even “considering everything that’s going on.”

The source added: “She’s had time off and has been able to focus on what’s next. She’s enjoyed time with her kids, family and friends. She always has a good attitude, even when things aren’t perfect.”

Lopez, who canceled her summer concert tour to spend time with family, will next star in the film Unstoppable, The film is being produced by Affleck’s company and is scheduled to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September.

Affleck finishes filming The Accountant 2a sequel to his 2016 action film, and he will star alongside Matt Damon in the Netflix crime thriller. REST IN PEACE.
