Viola Davis just celebrated her birthday with a milestone!

The actress celebrated her 59th birthday on August 11 and shared how she marked the occasion by sharing insights into a celebratory meal.

In the pictures uploaded to her official Instagram account, the EGOT winner shows a big grin while sitting in front of a cake decorated with several candles and pink, yellow and white icing.

In the carousel, which began with the quote from the late French writer Émile Zola: “If you ask me why I came into this life, I will tell you: I came to live out loud,” other photos show Davis smiling in a car while singing as she is presented with her birthday cake.

“I have love. I have courage. I have curiosity. I am alive!” she added in the caption.

On the occasion of her milestone birthday, she thanked everyone who showered Davis with love and concluded with the words: “Here’s to my last year in my 50s. Thank you for ALL the birthday wishes.”

She previously reflected on her life in a conversation with PEOPLE and admitted that fame had taken her by surprise. “When you grow up in certain circumstances, you don’t see yourself anymore. And that’s why you dream big, because it’s almost like you’re forcing yourself to just believe that something could happen.”
