It’s not every day that you hear an incredible story about a black woman who secretly stalked Michael Jackson as a young teenager, grew up friends with Prince, and stole millions from banks while outsmarting the FBI.

But that’s exactly what book lovers will experience this month when Tanya Smith’s memoir hits shelves across the country. The upcoming book, titled Never Saw Me Coming: How I Outsmarted the FBI and the Entire Banking System—and Made $40 Million, is about the true life of an unassuming black woman whose smarts and strategy got her into the most unbelievable situation.

With blurbs that reinforce the gripping story of Hollywood heavyweights like Issa Rae and Janelle Monae, Never Saw Me Coming delves into Smith’s “deeply personal and remarkable story of how she developed from a precocious young girl into a money-hungry, computer-savvy genius,” according to the Official description of the book according to Hachette Book Group. There was also Confirmation of an adjustment comes, However, no further details were announced.

Hachette with more:

It begins with a keen interest in technology and innocently obtaining the phone numbers of Michael Jackson and other celebrities, and leads to her successfully stealing $5,000 and depositing it into her grandmother’s bank account. By the age of 18, the risk-taker has already confiscated millions in cash. The FBI is hot on her heels and drags her in for questioning, demanding that Smith tell them who she works for, “because these are not the kinds of crimes that black people are smart enough to commit.” Her words, which suggested that intelligence is determined by race, deeply offended Smith. She takes on the challenge and proves the FBI wrong, stealing $40 million over time while securing diamonds, gold bars and other commodities. Her lifestyle attracts the wrong people, even those who are after her.

Law enforcement authorities persisted, eventually labeling Smith “one of the greatest threats to the entire U.S. banking system.” She receives an outrageous prison sentence—the longest for a white-collar crime—and is eventually released after a brilliant defense of herself.

“Never Saw Me Coming” will be available wherever books are sold starting Tuesday, August 13th.
