Weddings are usually a time for celebration and relaxation, but what happens when you find yourself at a dry wedding without warning?

For a group of college friends, unexpected sobriety led to an early graduation and a night on the town, sparking a mix of feelings and opinions.

Was it a harmless evening of fun or did they go too far by abandoning the bride and groom? Read on to find out the story.

Two weeks ago, I, 35, attended the wedding of a member of our college circle of friends in our college town.

My husband and I left the children with my parents and we left.

We booked a Vrbo site with another couple I went to college with for a few days.

My husband and I don’t have much time to ourselves without the kids, so we were looking forward to relaxing for a bit.

Yes, mom!

The invitation stated that the wedding would last until 11am and that there would be a party with the bride and groom at the venue afterwards.

The venue was a beautiful mansion and the bride and groom had reserved it for the night, leaving for their honeymoon the next morning.

Cut to the wedding day. It’s a dry wedding.

The groom has apparently been sober for two years.

Nobody told us this and we were admittedly disappointed.

Oh man.

When we found out there was no alcohol, we told people we were going to some bars afterwards and not to the afterparty.

We left the wedding at 9:30 because we were so desperate to go out and the wedding was boring. The ceremony was at 5, the reception at 6.

Pretty much the entire college crew left school at that time and went out.

Apparently the bride’s circle of friends did not stay for the party, but the groom did, and the look of the party was very unbalanced.

We all heard about it from the bride and she called us idiots for leaving.

She said she felt unsupported and felt like we were shaming her current husband for his abstinence.

Oh God.

I told her she was reading too much into it.

We just wanted to get out.

She is especially angry with me because I am considered the leader of this trip.

Don’t think I did anything wrong.

Is this possible?

This wedding story really caused a stir!

Reddit users were divided as to whether the guests’ actions were harmless fun or an etiquette faux pas.

Oh my goodness, everyone needs to calm down.

It looks like it wasn’t even the drinks that were flowing, but the guests.
