Concept art reveals early designs for Wesley Snipes as Blade

It’s still possible that Wesley Snipes looks cooler as Blade! Newly released concept art for Deadpool and Wolverine shows early designs for the Daywalker from the film.

Wesley Snipes returns to the screen as Blade in Deadpool and Wolverine was enough to make any grown man cry. His design in the film felt like he was stepping out of his old trilogy and straight into the MCU. However, concept art shows that he wouldn’t always look this good.

The first concept image of Deadpool and Wolverine comes from Rodney Fuentebella, who works as a Visual Development Supervisor at Marvel Studios. As seen below, for Wesley Snipes’ return as Blade, Fuentebella wanted a more world-weary and thrown-together outfit that almost makes him look ready for an apocalypse!

Wesley Snipes gets an upgrade as Blade

Of course, it’s rarely the first design of a character that makes it to the screen. While Rodney Fuentebella did a great job with his new take on Blade, sometimes it’s better to stick with the classics. The final concept art for Wesley Snipes’ hero was created by John Staub and, aside from being a little redder, is very similar to his appearance on the big screen in Deadpool and Wolverine.

It’s always interesting to take a look behind the scenes and see the early designs of popular characters. It would have been interesting to see Wesley Snipes as Blade in one of these costumes. Then again, he could have just worn a maple leaf in Deadpool and Wolverine and the fans would still have cheered his return!
