Michael Keaton’s Betelgeuse is trapped between two new damned souls in the crowded waiting room of the afterlife and the Deetz family comes out in four new pictures Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Nearly 36 years after he was called to help two recently deceased souls free their home from a new family, the spirit returns to the land of the living with the most when Lydia Deetz (Winona Ryder) is forced to ask him for help. In addition to returning stars Keaton, Ryder and Catherine O’Hara, Jenna Ortega, Justin Theroux, Monica Belucci and Willem Dafoe join the Beetlejuice Beetlejuice pour.

As Keaton’s sleazy bio-exorcist prepares to take the call, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice in cinemas in September, Full film (Above GamesRadar+) has shared new promotional images of the upcoming sequel.


The first shot shows Betelgeuse still sitting in the waiting room of the afterlife. On one side she is surrounded by a soul who choked to death during a hot dog eating contest and on the other by a cat owner who has been tangling with her furry friends. The other three frames focus on the living. Lydia is seen talking to Astrid (Ortega), Lydia is seen standing next to Rory (Theroux) and Delia (O’Hara), and Ortega is seen talking to director Tim Burton on set.

The world of the dead will be a much bigger focus


While the original 1988 film showed a highly bureaucratic vision of what comes after death, including overcrowded offices and damned officials, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice promises to show that this small glimpse into the afterlife was just the tip of the iceberg. In the first film, the only glimpses viewers got into the supernatural world beyond the offices were the sands of Saturn and the room filled with lost, exorcised souls. However, the sequel’s trailers have already promised a greater emphasis on the world of the afterlife, including a train set designed to take the living cast deeper into the afterlife.

Catherine O’Hara returns as Delia Deetz in Beetlejuice 2, and the sequel will feature a twist that takes the character to an interesting place.


In addition, the everyday but macabre elements of the afterlife are further explored in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. With the banishment of the titular spirit itself into the kingdom at the end of Beetlejuicepromotional material has him condemned to a previously unknown section of the afterlife, while Dafoe is set to play undead detective Wolf Jackson, putting supernatural law enforcement front and center. So there will no doubt be more gruesome ghouls on show as the sequel delves deeper into the afterlife.

Even the mundane yet macabre elements of the afterlife are further explored.


While further exploration of Burton’s world is always welcome, it’s the main cast that will captivate viewers. Beetlejuice Beetlejuiceand it’s clear from the preview that the director is focused on continuing these stories. From the family being brought back home due to a personal tragedy to a difficult mother-daughter relationship, the sequel makes sure its emotional core drives the story forward, rather than iconography. Still, it’s clear that the bio-exorcist’s unlikely return to the Deetzes won’t be without the dark but memorable aesthetic that helped the original stand out.
