Kate Middleton wears a rarely seen ring from Prince William in a new video, a gift from their time as a couple

The Prince and Princess of Wales supported Team Great Britain in a video message released on August 11, and Kate wore a sentimental ring given to her by William.

Kate Middleton wore a special accessory from Prince William during a surprise appearance.

The Prince and Princess of Wales, both 42, released a video message on August 11 in support of the British national team at the end of the 2024 Olympic Games. Prince William’s rarely seen beard immediately caused a stir on the Internet, but a barely noticeable jewelry moment from the Princess of Wales could also delight royal fans.

Kate appears to be wearing an engagement ring from William, which she received in the early 2000s when the two were students together at the University of St. Andrews.

According to the website Dress Like a Duchess, long before he gave Kate his mother’s famous sapphire and diamond engagement ring when he proposed in 2010, Prince William gave her a rose gold engagement ring with pearls and garnets, with the pearl symbolizing William’s birthday in June and the garnet symbolizing Kate’s birthday in January.

According to Dress Like a Duchess, Kate wore this ring in June 2005 on her graduation day at St. Andrews, where she received a degree in art history. Kate “wore the ring on her middle finger throughout her youth,” according to Dress Like a Duchess, and although she rarely wears it, she has kept the engagement ring out of her jewelry box even after becoming a working royal and has rarely worn it on royal occasions. For example, she paired the engagement ring with a gray Max Mara wrap dress on a visit to Hope House in 2013 and wore it again to Great Tower Scout Camp that same year, according to the website.

The ring symbolizes “commitment and fidelity, as well as a promise of lifelong love and loyalty,” wrote Dress Like a Duchess.

After meeting as freshmen students at St Andrews in 2001, the pair became friends and roommates before eventually starting a relationship. They briefly split in 2007, but reconciled later that year and eventually got engaged three years later. They married on April 29, 2011, and celebrated their thirteenth wedding anniversary earlier this year.

Accordingly Tatlerthe garnet gemstones in the engagement ring “are said to represent devotion and pearls are considered a symbol of innocence and purity.”

An expert from Steven Stone described the ring as “priceless” in the Princess of Wales’ “very valuable jewelry collection” due to its sentimental significance.

Although Prince William and Princess Kate did not make it to this year’s Olympic Games in Paris, they expressed their appreciation for the athletes in the video alongside numerous well-known faces such as Snoop Dogg and David Beckham.

“All of us watching at home congratulate Team GB!” Kate – who according to WWD— he said in the clip released on August 11.

“Congratulations on all you have achieved. You have been an inspiration to us all,” added William, wearing a blue polo shirt with the Olympic rings.

The pair took to social media to further show their support, writing: “Well done @TeamGB what an incredible journey! Every athlete has shown tremendous dedication, heart and passion. You have made us all so proud!”

They added: “Celebrating every triumph at @Paris2024 and looking forward to more from @ParalympicsGB later in the summer.” The post also included a British flag emoji and a gold medal emoji.

There had been speculation that the Prince and Princess of Wales might make a surprise appearance at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, but the couple wanted to keep a low profile this summer and spent private time with their three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
