Banksy unveils new rhino art in animal-themed collection

LONDON– Street artist Banksy unveiled a new mural in London on Monday of a rhinoceros that looks like it’s climbing a car – the eighth animal-themed artwork he’s posted in the past week in a collection that includes elephants, a goat, a wolf, pelicans and more.

The elusive graffiti artist, who has never confirmed his full identity, has been posting the new work on his Instagram account every day since last Monday. The latest work, in Charlton, south-east London, features a rhinoceros on a wall, giving the impression that the animal is climbing onto a broken-down car parked outside the building.

On Sunday, the artist claimed another artwork depicting piranhas that was on display at a police station near the Central Criminal Court, known as the Old Bailey, in London.

A small crowd flocked to the fish tank artwork on Monday, taking photos and selfies as workers erected barriers around it. A City of London Corporation spokesman said options for preserving the artwork were currently being considered.

Other works unveiled last week included pelicans appearing on the side of a fish shop in Walthamstow, east London, and the silhouette of a howling wolf painted on a satellite dish on a garage roof in south London.

The wolf motif was removed the same day by men who carried it away. It is not immediately clear who removed the satellite dish.

Banksy began his career spray painting buildings in Bristol, England, and went on to become one of the world’s most famous artists. His works have sold for millions of dollars at auction, and previous outdoor murals were often stolen or removed by building owners shortly after they were erected.
