Devils sign Nolan Foote to a one-year contract with two options

The New Jersey Devils announced on Monday the signing of forward Nolan Foote to a one-year, two-position contract through the 2024-25 season.

The deal is valued at $825,000 at the NHL level and $150,000 at the AHL level, with $200,000 guaranteed.

Foote, 23, scored one goal in four games with the Devils during the 2023-24 season after missing most of the season with a lower back injury. The 6-foot-4 forward also played four games with the Devils’ AHL affiliate, the Utica Comets, scoring three goals and one assist for four points.

Over the course of his career, Foote has played 23 regular season games with New Jersey, scoring six goals and two assists for eight points. He has also played 138 regular season games in the AHL, scoring 44 goals and 46 assists for 90 points.

Foote was selected in the first round of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft by the Tampa Bay Lightning and spent three seasons as a junior with the Kelowna Rockets of the WHL, where he scored 68 goals and 70 assists for 138 points in 168 regular season games.

In June 2019, he signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Lightning, but was traded to the Devils along with a 2020 first-round pick in exchange for Blake Coleman.

At the international level, Foote won a gold medal with Canada at the 2020 World Junior Championships and a gold medal at the 2017 U18 tournament.

Last season, the Devils finished 38-39-5 with 81 points, seventh in the Eastern Conference’s Metropolitan Division and 10 points out of the second wild card spot. Forward Jesper Bratt led the team with 83 points, and Jack Hughes, the No. 1 pick in 2019, scored 74 points in just 62 regular-season games.

The team hired former Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe as their next coach during the offseason.
