Author suggests trading CeeDee Lamb to Green Bay Packers

Bleacher Report writer Maurice Moton wrote an article this weekend about five teams that could potentially trade disgruntled Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, who is not currently joining the team. One of Morton’s suggestions was a hypothetical trade with the Green Bay Packers, who would offer one of their young pass catchers along with draft picks for Lamb.

Here’s what Moton wrote in the Packers section of his article:

Cowboys receive: 2025 first-round pick, 2025 third-round pick Christian Watson

Packers receive: CeeDee Lamb

In 2023, Jordan Love showed he is a franchise quarterback. The Green Bay Packers pass offense ranked 12th in yards with the third most touchdowns.

The Packers’ air attack made great strides with a starting quarterback in his first year, while wide receiver Christian Watson struggled with injuries that cost him eight games.

Of course, the Green Bay Packers offense can be more explosive with a healthy Watson, and he’s already shown he’s a star, but the team doesn’t need him running up and down the field against their opponents. We saw that last season.

The Packers have a young wide receiver unit that includes Jayden Reed, Romeo Doubs and Dontayvion Wicks, all of whom played important roles in the team’s air attack last year, which finished 12th. They also have a couple of solid pass-catching tight ends, Luke Musgrave and Tucker Kraft.

In exchange for Watson, a 25-year-old wide receiver with great potential, the Packers would get a true No. 1 receiver while the rest of their young pass-catching group continues to grow. They have $22.4 million in salary cap space this year and $16.4 million for 2025, though the front office can restructure contracts to free up space if necessary.

The Cowboys may not like the idea of trading Lamb to the team that knocked them off in the 2023 NFC Wild Card Round, but if they have a hard time reaching a new contract agreement with him, Dallas could see this offer as the best proposal to solve the problem.

Personally, I do not see the Packers paying anywhere near the compensation demanded to also pay Lamb a top-dollar contract extension. Remember, this is the same Green Bay Packers front office that eventually had to let go of Davante Adams after offering him a contract extension worth $17 million a year a couple of years ago. Remember, this is the same team that reportedly turned down a trade for former Wisconsin running back Jonathan Taylor, who also found himself in a holdout situation last summer because Christian Watson was part of the package the Indianapolis Colts wanted back for the former All-Pro.

It’s not just about the money. It’s not just about Watson. It’s those two factors plus the two high-profile draft picks on top of that. I’m sure if I were in the Cowboys’ position, something like that would make me trade Lamb, too. He’s a good player. That’s what you pay good players for. But that’s their problem, not ours.
