The last months of Green Lantern Life has forced him to consider options that were once unthinkable, such as replacing his powers with supervillain weapons. In a preview for Green Lantern #14, Hal Jordan is a prisoner of Amanda Waller. The UP has taken his ring and other weapons, Jordan was forced to think outside the box – and now he owes a debt to a surprising Superman villain.

DC released a preview for Green Lantern #14, written by Jeremy Adams and drawn by Fernando Pasarin with AIPT. Hal Jordan has just escaped from a prison on the island of Gamorra used by Amanda Waller. Two of Waller’s foot soldiers are searching for Jordan when one of them spots a spinning top. As the two guards approach it, it explodes, creating a blinding flash.


Jordan reveals that the stun grenade with spinning top was designed by the Toymanand he makes a point of thanking him the next time there is an argument.

Green Lantern #14 is also a Absolute power Jordan’s imprisonment is the result of an agreement between the United Planets and Amanda Waller, Absolute Power’s Architect. In a last-ditch effort to rid Earth of its super-powered population, Waller has unleashed a multi-front war against them, stripping them of their powers and tarnishing their reputation. The Green Lantern Corps recently came under the control of the United Planets, who transformed it into an army of bootlickers. Thaaros, the head of the UP, made a deal with Waller: his Green Lanterns would not interfere in Earth’s affairs.


However, Jordan is and remains a hero and cannot stand by and watch as Waller plunges the Earth into an oppressive police state.

The United Planets realized that Hal Jordan was a threat and took steps to neutralize him. He was removed from his position in the Green Lantern Corps and exiled to Earth. Jordan remains a hero, however, and cannot stand by and watch as Waller plunges Earth into an oppressive police state. Without his ring, Jordan was forced to find other means of counterattack. The Toyman, a longtime enemy of Superman, relies heavily on dangerous devices disguised as toys. How Green Lantern got the flashbangs is never revealed, but he is now in Toyman’s debt.


Green Lantern is cornered

Joining forces with villains is never a good idea for anyone, especially Green Lantern

Unfortunately, using weapons designed by a murderous villain isn’t Green Lantern’s proudest moment, but it does show how desperate he is in the face of Waller’s machinations. While the flashbangs weren’t lethal, many of Toyman’s gadgets are, and he’s killed people in the past. Hal would be wary of using the more lethal parts of Toyman’s armory, but the longer he goes without his ring, the more desperate he might become. Green Lantern has never been in a situation like this where he was forced to use weapons designed by villains.
