The success and popularity of game of Thrones created more demand for spinoffs, but one of the few that didn’t get off the ground was Kit Harington’s Jon Snow. The title was one of the first projects planned outside of the original show, but after a long development process with no positive progress, it was decided to put it on hold for the time being.
As devastating as it may sound to fans, Harington saw the signs early on and ultimately followed his gut instinct and dropped out of the project to avoid making a huge mistake.

Kit Harington spoke with GQ Magazine and shared what actually happened with the Jon Snow Spin-off. At first he didn’t like the suggestion, but he found something about the idea that piqued his interest.
It was HBO that came to me and said, “Would you consider this?” My first reaction was no. And then I thought there might be an interesting and important story about the soldier after the war. I felt like maybe there was still something to say and a story to tell, albeit on a fairly limited scale.
The Jon Snow Spinoff should revolve around the life of the title character after the events in game of Thrones and Harington revealed that they “spent a few years developing it“, but nothing could inspire them enough to see the story through.
The English star admitted that he was the first to quit his job. He did it to avoid making a career mistake that he might later regret.
In the end, I backed down and said, “I think if we keep pushing this forward and developing it, we might end up with something that is not good. And that is the last thing we all want.”
With several spin-offs in the planning stages, the story about a soldier’s life after the war may not be particularly interesting for fans given the format and subject matter of the original series. game of Thrones is all about politics and power, the rise and fall of dynasties that strive for the crown and the Iron Throne.

Will HBO be a Jon Snow Series in the future?
While Harington claimed that the Jon Snow Spinoff is “from the table“ in his interview with Screen Rantthe actor gave a faint hint that they might revisit it another time.
We’ve decided to stop doing that for now. Maybe we’ll come back to it at some point.
It doesn’t seem to be a priority for HBO at the moment, as the upcoming season 3 of House of the Dragonand 2025 A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and the cartoon series Nine trips. Aegon’s Conquest is also in early development.
