Flanked by tie-dye banners hanging from their speakers, Eddy’s Shoe rocked Dover’s Town Green on Tuesday night, July 23. The band played blues, R&B, classic rock, and Grateful Dead-style jams, playing solid originals and covers that sounded great.

The members of Eddy’s Shoe are mostly locals, having grown up in Dover, Needham and Millis. Today they maintain a busy schedule, playing throughout Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

The band’s energy was infectious, with tight rhythms and impressive solos that made you want to dance. The band benefited from strong vocals and originals from Phil Thisse, as well as inventive guitar solos from Dave Porter. Jim Cribby’s flying fingers raced across the keyboards in monster solos, showing the crowd what the organ and honky-tonk keyboards could do. Macgreggor Mcgehee played a grooving bass line and Oliver Hammerhee on drums provided a solid groove and added well-placed flourishes. The vocal harmony added to the band’s impressive sound.

The band played a range of songs, including thoughtful originals and covers such as Steely Dan’s “Where Did You Get Those Shoes?”, the Allman Brothers’ “Wake Up Momma,” an uptempo tune such as Marvin Gaye’s “How Sweet it is to Be Loved by You” and Stevie Wonder’s “I Wish Those Days Could Come Back Once More.”

The crowd listened to the band perform and cheered on their long-time local friends while enjoying the cooler breeze of the evening. The kids played with equipment from Knucklebones Games. There were smiling faces everywhere!
