Arshad Nadeem’s father-in-law announces buffalo as gift

The father-in-law of Olympic gold medalist Arshad Nadeem has announced that he will gift the javelin star a buffalo.

Nadeem achieved a historic victory in the javelin throw at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, setting a new Olympic record with a throw of 92.97 metres, relegating India’s Neeraj Chopra to second place.

Muhammad Nawaz, Nadeem’s father-in-law, told local media in Nadeem’s village on Sunday that gifting a buffalo is considered a prestigious gesture in their community. Nawaz, who has four sons and three daughters, mentioned that his youngest daughter Ayesha is married to Nadeem.

Nawaz expressed his pride over Nadeem’s success and fame and praised his respectful demeanor. He stressed that Nadeem, his country’s first individual medalist, is always polite and appreciative during visits.

Nadeem received a hero’s welcome upon his return to Pakistan, where he was greeted with a traditional water cannon salute at Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore.

Dignitaries such as Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal, Minister of State for Information Technology Shaza Fatima, Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari, Punjab Sports Minister Faisal Ayub Khokhar, PML-N Chairman Khawaja Saad Rafiq and Chairman PM Youth Programme Rana Mashhood Ahmed were present to pay tributes to the national hero.
