Hastings College receives large legacy donation

HASTINGS, Nebraska (KSNB) – Hastings College received a $9 million gift from his estate ahead of the new school year.

The gift comes from Ed Osterman, a 1965 graduate of Hastings College.

Osterman spent most of his life in central Nebraska and graduated from Central City High School.

After college, Osterman moved to Colorado and worked for the Colorado State Forestry Service.

Osterman moved back to Nebraska for the last three years of his life until he died on Christmas Day 2023.

Rich Lloyd, president of Hastings College, said this gift shows how special the college is.

“It’s just an absolute blessing, one of the greatest gifts in the history of Hastings College and another testament to the legacy of this institution. And someone’s kindness and generosity, his feelings for this place where he went to school, has left us such a gift,” Llyod said.

Osterman began making annual donations to support Hastings College early in his life, using his gifts primarily to maintain campus facilities.

About $5 million will be used for deferred maintenance projects over the next five years and the other $4 million will go into an endowment fund.
