You are eating sausage rolls wrong – expert shares mistakes

Sausage rolls are a classic of British bakeries and are popular with adults and children alike.

It’s heavenly to pick up the warm, flaky goodness and bite into it, whether you bought it from Greggs or the supermarket. But it seems we’ve been eating it wrong all this time.

William Hanson, who is known for sharing his etiquette knowledge on social media, has divided his fans after claiming that you don’t eat a sausage roll with your hands. In the video, which has received more than 418,000 likes, influencer Joe Tasker was about to eat his favourite pastry and was holding it in his hands when the etiquette expert stopped him.

“We don’t pick up the sausage roll with our hands,” William warned, before showing him the “right way.” He began by placing a napkin on his lap, presumably to catch any crumbs.

Joe hilariously struggled with his while Hanson warned him not to “flick” or “you’ll put someone’s eye out”. He then went on to outrage the Brits by telling them to eat a sausage roll with a knife and fork.

He explains: “We pick up the cutlery. We don’t use our hands. We hold the fork in our non-dominant hand. We hold the knife in our dominant hand. And then we carefully pry it from the edge, not from the middle.”

However, Tasker quickly gave up using his knife and fork, picked up the piece he had cut off with his fingers and stuffed it into his mouth. TikTok users were stunned by the clip and gave their opinions in the comments.

One user commented, “I’d be done before that guy even starts,” while another added, “Just let my brother eat that.” A third commented, “This is awesome.”

Someone else wrote: “Sorry but there is only one way to eat a sausage roll and that is half in the bag, half outside and biting into it while walking through town; standing at a bus stop or sitting in a car is also acceptable.”
