Car crashes through house in east Madison

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – A car crashed into the side of a home in east Madison on Sunday. One person was taken to the hospital, the Madison Fire Department said.

At around 11:40 a.m., 911 calls reported a car had crashed into a home in the 1600 block of Sherman Avenue, officials said. The MFD’s Heavy Urban Rescue Team (HURT) was among the teams that rushed to the home.

Authorities shored up the damaged area of ​​the house to prevent it from collapsing while the car was being removed. Madison Fire Department and towing crews worked to clear the scene until about 2 p.m.

According to Madison Fire, no one was in the home at the time of the accident. MFD added that one person from the car was taken to the hospital, but did not specify if that was the driver.

Pictures show that the car drove through a front yard and then crashed through the side of a neighboring garage.

Local resident Ken Udell described the sound of the impact as “a crack, like a tree falling over.”

“Then I heard the sirens and went out to check,” Udell said.

Authorities did not provide any further details about the causes of the crash.
