It’s a very special, festive weekend for Jennifer Hudson and her family.
On Saturday, August 10, the EGOT winner celebrated her son, David Otunga Jr., who celebrated his 15th trip around the sun.
The talk show host welcomed her son in 2009 with her then fiancé David OtungaShe and the retired professional wrestler began dating in 2007 and got engaged the following year, but finally went their separate ways in 2017.
In honor of David Jr.’s special day, Jennifer posted a sweet tribute on Instagram: First, she posted a photo of the birthday boy looking so grown up as he poses next to his mother, towering over her.
“Team Jhud, can you all help wish my child @doj10 a happy (blessed) 15th birthday!” wrote the loving mother, pointing to David’s Instagram, where he has not posted anything yet.
“I can’t believe I had a 15 year old! God is good! Happy birthday my baby!!!!” Jennifer continued, and fans were quick to chime in in the comments section beneath the post, not stopping to leave more congratulatory messages.
“15 already!?! Happy birthday DOJ!!!” wrote one, and others followed with, “Happy birthday David!!! I can’t believe you’re 15! Have an amazing birthday” and, “OH MY GOD!!! How beautiful!! Happy birthday to your handsome young man! Happy birthday David!” and, “Happy birthday DOJ! BIG birthday wishes to you! And many more!!”

Although 42-year-old Jennifer keeps her son largely out of the public eye, she always raves about how proud she is of him.
Back in 2022, as boss Michael Airhart by Taste for the Homeless – an organization that provides meals to those in need in Chicago – The Jennifer Hudson Showhe gave heartwarming insights into David’s generosity and recalled the times when he volunteered for his organization.

The chef noted that the teenager did not reveal who his famous mother is when he volunteered, saying, “He’s been helping me for quite a while,” adding, “He has a pure heart of gold, and when I say – and I’m not kidding – that you recognize people who have a heart of gold like that… He was determined to help those less fortunate. I didn’t have to say anything.”

He further recalled, “He just took control of the trays and I was sitting up there thinking, ‘Okay, I love this boy.’ And I didn’t know until someone whispered and came up to me and said, ‘Do you know who this boy is? That’s Jennifer Hudson’s son.’ I said, ‘Yeah, sure!'”
Jennifer, who just returned from a multi-day stay in Paris for the 2024 Olympic Games, most recently attended the GLAAD Media Awards in New York City with her son on May 11, where she was honored with GLAAD’s Excellence in Media Award.
