Art of Aging: Dealers at The Swamp Door in Gilbertsville, Pennsylvania offer antiques and vintage items

GILBERTSVILLE, Pa. (WPVI) — At The Swamp Door in Gilbertsville, Montgomery County, you’ll find dealers connected by collecting.

“We are a cooperative of 70 different vendors and 650 square meters of showroom space,” says Lisa Cellini, owner of The Swamp Door.

“We are such a big family here,” says Linda Butera, owner of Little House Collectibles.

Buyers enjoy finding things.

“We have antiques, vintage, gifts, decor, collectibles, curios and more,” says Cellini.

Doreen Mayconich began selling her art there after retiring from pharmaceutical marketing. She founded DKMDesigns to pursue her passion for creating.

“I have a degree in art,” Mayconich says. “I have hand-painted glass, salt and pepper shakers, butter dishes and wine glasses.”

She says she also offers some newer items.

“It’s just a real mix,” she says.

Michele Lafferty is the owner of Cora’s Timeless Antiques.

“My passion is furniture. I love vintage and especially antique furniture,” says Lafferty.

She also sells home decor and books.

“It just started as a hobby,” she says.

This is now her second act since she retired from teaching in 2012.

“I just love it,” says Lafferty.

Linda Butera says she has been collecting for 40 years. She brought Little House Collectibles to The Swamp Door when it opened in 2015. She stocks vintage aprons, handkerchiefs and postcards.

“I specialize in bed linen,” says Butera.

The salespeople work together and walk around the sales floors to help customers in each other’s stores.

“I love the customers,” says Lafferty. “I get to meet a lot of interesting people.”

“When you shop here, you experience a real small business owner,” says Cellini. “You are actually supporting local people.”

If you find something valuable, they say, buy it when you see it.

“And you have to keep coming back because our dealers are constantly restocking their warehouses and bringing in new goods,” says Butera.

“You can find really high-quality things here at a good price,” says Mayconich.

“It’s so much fun,” says Butera. “And I hope I can keep doing it for quite a while.”
