FAIRY TAIL 2 producer talks about the battle system overhaul, new story elements, improved animations and more

KOEI TECMO America and developer Gust are working on FAIRY TAIL 2, their new action RPG based on the popular FAIRY TAIL series, and it’s coming to Switch on December 13. Ahead of the release, the game’s producer has shared some insight into what fans of the original can look forward to in the sequel.

4Gamer recently spoke with producer Kataoka Hiroshi in an interview with 4Gamer and he had a lot to say about his next work. Here are some of the exciting things fans can expect from FAIRY TAIL 2.

  • The game will show “every last detail” of the fight against Zeref, the Spriggan 12 and Acnologia
  • This will include various plot twists and famous scenes from the original series
  • Facial expressions have been reworked to make them more expressive
  • Battles are no longer turn-based, but now use a faster real-time system
  • This change in combat allows the developers to meet fans’ wishes to see the characters move more
  • Attacks and ability activations are assigned to “rhythmically” pressed keys.
  • The combat system was compared to Atelier Ryza 3
  • Battles also require strategy
  • The story is “essentially the same as the original,” but with adjustments in the plot and sequence
  • The project is supervised by FAIRY TAIL creator Hiro Mashima.
  • Mashima wrote additional original dialogues for the game
  • The game will have a larger map than the first
  • unforgettable places from the manga are seamlessly connected to Magnolia Town in the center
  • This game contains events that summarize the story from the first game.
  • There will also be a glossary of terms
