Earlier this month, a woman was arrested at an Applebee’s restaurant in Portage, Indiana, after an argument over one of the company’s “all-you-can-eat” offerings.
The 28-year-old woman was arrested on Aug. 2 and charged with disturbing the peace, according to a police report obtained by USA TODAY.
According to the arrest report, Portage Police officers were called to Applebee’s on U.S. Highway 6211 at around 8:38 p.m. on Aug. 2 for a report of a “verbal disturbance.” Police dispatchers told officers they heard “several females screaming” and “threatening individuals,” one of the officers wrote in the arrest report.
When officers arrived on scene, they were met outside by several adults, including the woman, who said they had been involved in a verbal altercation with the Applebee’s manager.

The group felt that the All You Can Eat offer for $15.99 applies to everyone at the table
According to the arrest report, the group was convinced that an order for the “All You Can Eat” offer by one person at the table applied to the entire table.
According to a July 29 press release from the restaurant chain, the “All You Can Eat” deal in question is an offer that includes unlimited boneless chicken wings, riblets and double crunch shrimp, served with unlimited fries, for $15.99 per person.
When the manager informed the table that this was not the case and that everyone would have to pay $15.99 for the deal, “a heated argument ensued,” the arrest report states. The group told police that the manager was “very unprofessional” toward them and that nowhere on the menu did he mention that the deal was “per person.”
The officer who responded to the inquiry said in the arrest report that the woman then gave him a menu that had the words “Per Person” under the bold letters “All You Can Eat.” The officer said he showed the menu to the group, and as he was doing so, a couple walked out of the restaurant.

The woman pointed to the couple and told the officer that she had exchanged words with them before.
As the couple left the restaurant, arguments broke out again and the woman became “very loud and inappropriate, which attracted the attention of other patrons,” the police report said.
The officer wrote in the report that he warned the woman for disorderly conduct and that another person in the group tried to calm her down but was unsuccessful. At one point, the person tried to put his hand over the woman’s mouth to calm her down but again was unsuccessful.
Woman arrested, bill paid after misunderstanding cleared up
The woman was arrested and later taken to the Porter County Jail.
Another person in the group went back to the restaurant and paid the bill in full after noticing that the menu stated that the “All You Can Eat” offer was per person.
