Turkish Airlines carries 49 million passengers in 7 months

The number of passengers carried by Turkish Airlines increased by 3.5 percent to 48.94 million in the period January to July compared to the same period last year.

The number of international passengers increased by 3.6 percent year-on-year in the first seven months of 2024, reaching 30.9 million. The number of domestic passengers increased by 3.4 percent to over 18 million.

In the period January to July, the airline’s passenger load factor fell from 82.3 percent in the previous year to 81.5 percent.

Turkish Airlines expanded its fleet by eight percent and had a total of 458 aircraft at the end of July. The number of destinations served increased from 339 to 342.

Seat capacity increased by 9.6 percent to 95,047, Turkish Airlines said in a statement to the Istanbul Stock Exchange.

1.2 million tons of freight and mail were handled, 30.4 percent more than in the previous year.

In July alone, Turkish Airlines recorded a 2.6 percent year-on-year decline in passenger numbers to 8.33 million.

The company served 5.2 million international passengers, down 1.7 percent from July 2023, while domestic passenger numbers fell 4.2 percent year-on-year to 3.12 million.

Passenger load factor fell from 85.7 percent in July 2023 to 85.2 percent last month.

The airline last week reported a 34.7 percent year-on-year increase in its net profit for the first half of 2024 to $1.17 billion, with revenue rising 9.8 percent to $10.4 billion.

Passenger revenue increased from $8.1 billion to $8.4 billion, while cargo revenue increased over 37 percent year-on-year to $1.64 billion.
