Trump shooter Thomas Matthew Crooks cut his AR-15 rifle in two so he could stash it in his backpack as he made his way through the crowd at the rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, the FBI said Wednesday.
The office released the first photos of the DPMS DR-15 semi-automatic rifle and the black backpack with orange and white accents that authorities found at the scene.
“Thomas Crooks’ rifle was disassembled, as was likely the case during transport, and the backpack was found at the scene,” the FBI wrote under the sensational new photo.
In a separate photo, the rifle is fully assembled and positioned next to a ruler that sets its length from stock to barrel at about 36 inches.
The agency also released images of two explosive devices in the trunk of Crooks’ car – with the receiver that allowed remote detonation set to “off.” The agency said the devices had “several problems with their design.”
