Another shock for YSRCP as MLC Pothula Suneetha quits the partyAmaravati, August 28 (SocialNews.XYZ) In another setback for the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) in Andhra Pradesh, its MLC Pohtula Suneetha resigned from the party on Wednesday.

She also resigned as a member of the Legislative Council.

Suneetha, who is also the chairperson of the YSRCP women’s wing, submitted her resignation to YSRCP chairman and former chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and the chairman of the Legislative Council.

According to sources, she is likely to join the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP).

Suneetha had quit the TDP and resigned as MLC in 2020, but her term was until March 3, 2023, citing that the TDP’s activities were damaging the development of the state.

Moreover, she openly supported the then YSRCP government led by Jagan Mohan Reddy, following which the TDP lodged a complaint against her with the Chairman of the Legislative Council demanding her disqualification.

She later joined the YSRCP.

In the by-election in January 2021, Suneetha contested as a YSRCP candidate and was unanimously elected under the MLA quota.

Meanwhile, the YSRCP is likely to suffer further setbacks as two of its Rajya Sabha members are reportedly planning to resign as MPs.

Mopidevi Venkatramna and B. Mastan Rao are likely to submit their resignations to Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankher and later resign from their party membership.

Several other politicians are also likely to leave the YSRCP, which lost power to the TDP-Jana Sena-BJP coalition in June.

In the last two months, several important politicians have left the party and joined the TDP.

Most recently, Eluru Mayor Sheikh Noorjahan and her husband SMR Pedababu left the YSRCP and joined the TDP on Tuesday.

The couple along with several other YSRCP leaders joined the ruling party in the presence of Education Minister and TDP General Secretary Nara Lokesh.

It was a homecoming for Noorjahan and her husband as they had quit the TDP five years ago to join the YSRCP.

Noorjahan entered politics in 2014 by joining the TDP. She became the first woman mayor of Eluru in 2015. She and her husband left the TDP and joined the YSRCP in 2019.

In 2021, Noorjahan was elected as the Mayor of Eluru Municipal Corporation for the second time as the YSRCP secured a landslide victory in 47 out of 50 wards in the municipal elections.

After the YSRCP lost to the TDP-led alliance in the last elections, the couple decided to return to the TDP.
